I’m new to AX, I am the IT person in a company which is in the process of implementing AX 2012 R3, not yet live.
We have a problem, that our implementation partner has “solved” with code customization.
We regularly have to do transfer journals. Problem is that we cannot create a transfer journal when the stock is reserved, which is often the case (for multiple sales order lines).
I have reasons not to fully trust our implementation partner for choosing the best solution for a certain problem.
So I would like to be sure: Is there really no configuration setting that makes it possible to use a transfer journal without first unreserving the stock and re-reserve the stock after posting the transfer journal?
The current code customization from our partner automates this unreservering and re-reserving, but doesn’t work correctly and messes up reservations and some values in colums in On hand stock.
Another related question:
When the transfer journal is created but not yet posted, it fills 2 colums in on-hand stock form: "Ordered in total" and "On order". Although it is not a big problem, we find this confusing.
Is there a configuration setting to prevent these columns from being updated by transfer journals? Our partner has also solved this by code customization. This customization seems to work OK, but they’ve only done 1 form while these and other related colums show up in many different forms, we don’t know where we’ll end with this customization.
Someone suggested to do late reservation (at order picking), but for specific reasons this is not an option for our company.
It has also been suggested to used advanced warehousing (WMS). We are planning to do that, but not not at go live. I guess it will take a last half a year, perhaps a year after go-live untill we will move to WMS.
Any ideas are welcome.

OK, thanks for your clear answer. We know now how to proceed.
In our business it is not unusual that stock is reserved for weeks or even months before it is picked. Furthermore, we buy articles from different manufacturers, and some manufacturers are not acceptable for some clients, while they are OK for other clients.
So we have to reserve early.
And to optimize use of the warehouse locations space, we regularly have to move stock.
The current code customization automatically unreserves stock when transfer journal is started. Once the transfer journal is started, new stock reservations have to be blocked. When transfer journal is posted, the original reservations should be recreated. This last step is now not working correctly.
Hi Jan den Ouden,
Can you share some details, why are you moving items that has been reserved ?
Because if you will un reserve them they could be reserved against another Sales order and won't be sold to original customer.
Hi Jan,
Your first customisation is also one that I have seen done. I believe your partner is correct; you cannot transfer stock that is reserved in the non-Warehouse management way.
For your second point - this is also just the way AX works as standard.
