That may not work for much longer. Don't forget that the audit functionality is moving towards Office 365's Security & Compliance Center as Microsoft are trying to centralise Audit information into 1 single place for accurate compliance logs...
Office 365 audit logs can be accessed and exported by multiple means jcutrer.com/.../how-to-export-office-365-audit-logs covers a few of the options...

You could refer to the following article to store D365 Audit Log offline by extracting the log details from 3rd party toolkit like the SSIS Integration Toolkit for Microsoft Dynamics 365 which works both on premise and online. Then you could delete all these audit logs to free space.
