Planned Order plans order for wrong warehouse

Good afternoon everyone,

We are currently implementing D365 FO. We have an intercompany setup:   [SALES COMPANY, WAREHOUSE "CM1" ]  >  [PURCHASE COMPANY, WAREHOUSE "SCM" ]  > SUPPLIER (External).

I have a released product X in the sales company, which I would like to order. We would like to purchase the part for the Purchase company warehouse SCM, and use a Transfer order from SCM to transfer the goods to the warehouse CM1. Therefore both supplier and product X purchase order defaults point to the Site and Warehouse of the Purchase company.

1. Create Sales order in Sales company for product X, with warehouse CM1 --> Save

2 .Intercompany chain is generated automatically (PO Salescompany, SO Purchase company)

3. Now we run Master planning in the Purchase company. Planned order shows the product, but not for the purchase company's  warehouse SCM. It shows a planned order for delivery to warehouse CM1. Of course this is the final destination, but we would like to purchase it for warehouse SCM, and then use a transfer order for delivery to CM1 warehouse.

I think I might miss a setting somewhere. Can anyone help me out on how to achieve this?

We need this functionality because our Purchase company is based in Asia, and we would like to gain insight in all the parts that are on transport from Asia to Europe.

RE: Planned Order plans order for wrong warehouse

I'm not sure whether it's best to start a new topic.. but let's give it at try. I'm a colleague of Willem (topic starter) and we managed to setup the structure with the Asian replenishment warehouse via transfer order, thanks a lot for your input here.

Currently i'm trying to add a new dimension in our Master Planning:

So, we have a preferred supplier with a long leadtime, based in Asia and we tranfser these orders to Europe via Transfer orders, so far so good.

Now it can (and will) happen that we run out of stock for this item and therefore have to purchase the same product within Europe (with higher cost but less leadtime).

I have both options in a Trade Agreement and the Master Planning parameters is set at lowest cost supplier.

The default purchase order settings are also set to purchase for the Asian warehouse, but as far as i know this won't effect the Planned Orders, only the manually made.

Would it be possible to have a combination of this integrated in our Master Planning?

I was thinking about a secondary plan with a time fence of let's say 14 days and within that plan set parameters to shortest leadtime, but it seems like those settings are general for all planned orders and not specific related to a certain Plan.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks a lot.

    Mark

The purchase order is instantly created. In the planned Transfer order the sourcing warehouse it NOT the same  as the Purchase order, but you are right, in the Transfer order there is a good chance to replace one Asian warehouse with another.

I am thinking... I think the best/easiest way would be to override the "Firm" button of the planned orders, and change the output of the button to create a Purchase order, based on exactly the same data as the selected Planned order, with the difference that site and warehouse are retrieved from the vendor setup table. This is quite easy to customize, and solved the problem I guess.

    Thank you Eugen.

Not the answer I hoped for of course, but clear. I will do some research how we have to solve this.

This cannot be achieved without a customization. The "refill warehouse" graph is a straight line, not a "tree". This customization will be very, very hard if possible at all in the new D365FO.

However, you mentioned you wanted to track the transit time. I fully understand that, because if you ship from the PURCHASE COMPANY just in time, and wait for the physical receipt in the SALES COMPANY, the item disappears from the consolidated balance for 2 weeks.

However, you can simulate one physical European warehouse with multiple logical warehouses CM1, CM2, CM3, each refilled from its own SCM1, SCM2, SCM3.

In the PURCHASE COMPANY the default warehouse CMx is enforced through the Default order settings of the item, right? I am not quite sure if you are able to change the default warehouse in the ICO purchase order.

    Thank you for your reply!

I am currently testing your suggestion. I think this will help, but in this way one challange remains. I realise my question is not complete enough... We have multiple Asian warehouses, that "replenish" multiple European warehouses. This depends on the product.

    For example:

    - Product X is bought from Asian warehouse 1

    - Product Y is bought from Asian warehouse 2

    - Both products can be shipped to any European warehouse, depending on the needs (depending on sales orders).

I think we might need a different setup to accomplish this ?

Sweet. Then you need a Refill warehouse setup in the company PURCHASE COMPANY: CM1 is refilled from SCM, both CM1 and SCM are distinct warehouses in the PURCHASE COMPANY. The planned order type = Transfer is the key:
