Hi Everyone,
We have a scenario to increase the EDT length of CustMarkupGroupId to 30 char (which is currently 10). CustMarkupGroupId extends MarkupGroupId extends Sysgroup.
Is it fine and recommended increasing the Sysgroup EDT by creating an extension of it? Please recommend?

Do you really need 30 characters for the coding? What is the reason for 30? This is quite large for a group identification.

The customer wants to have the multiselection enabled. Thus, we want to increase the size by 2 times.
Do you have any other recommendations?
You can only modify the value if the EDT does not extend from another EDT through extension. So you can only extend the length of Sysgroup. You can submit a extensibility support request in LCS though:docs.microsoft.com/.../extensibility-requests

If you extend the sysgroup string size to 30 then all the derrived EDT from sysgroup will also be increased to 30 so I would not recommend this type of approach. Also may I know how will you handle the multiselection for that field when you choose 3 value and store it all in the same field?

Can you explain what you mean with "multiselection"? Please explain the requirement from the customer from a functional point of view.
