Check printing to a network printer via DRA-as-a-service - possible?

Possible to print checks to a network printer via a DRA configured to run as a Windows Service?
 
The PDF printing section in the Printer destination article seems pretty unequivocal:
PDF documents can be printed directly to a network printer only if the Document Routing Agent is running as a desktop application.
... yet my boss believes he was able to get it to work in the past... Just doesn't remember how.
 
P.S. Some context:
  • we'd like to avoid running the DRA desktop application for network printing as the server gets regularly rebooted (and then check printing to network printers will not work)
  • I have zero experience with D365; was tasked with setting up a service account to run DRA, and it seems to work well - except for check printing

    I think it is possible, you can refer to the document to Install the Document Routing Agent to enable network printing.

    Thanks Judy! Which part of that article makes you think that check (or any other "custom margin" printing to "network printers" via PDF in D365) is possible?
     
    (The article I linked to in my original post says with certainty, "not possible". I just wanted to confirm that.)
