Hi All,

Happy new year to all.

I am developer with more than 8+ years in  development , support and enhancement of .net console. asp.net, SQL server and JavaScript applications.

I am comfortable with C# ,T-SQL and JavaScript.

I am going to join a company which uses the Dynamics 365 and they are using the X++ language for development, this is completely new to me.

Can you please let me know how to start with the X++ language learning, I googled but couldn't get much.

IT would be great if we can help me on the below queries

1, if Microsoft 365 is cloud , do we need to create a account  to get the development environment?

2, or is there any development framework or IDE like Visual studio  I can download and install and start learning development ? how to set up the development env)

3, Does the Dynamics has any sql server back end or its has its own database?

4, any good learning source for the X++ basics and language basics and development ENV setup for newbies ? ( web urls or youtube links)

5, Since this is product where is this development of X++  fit in?

6, is there any other things languages I need to learn ?

Since I am completely new to Dynamics and appreciate every help on learning this.

thanks in advance .

    +1 Blue

firstly get an MS O365 account, a LCS project and download a Development VHD and then configure it to use with Visual Studio

If you know C++ C# then abstraction wise you are there just need to learn the mechanics of objects and relationships

while MS docs site is an excellent resource, also suggest to leverage MS Learning, DLP and some good books on D365FO development

    HI SimpleCoder,

    Welcome to D365FO.

You can learn by getting the development VM, but Partner or Customer trial is the only way to get access to a dev VM, you can get some information here:

    https://community.dynamics.com/ax/f/microsoft-dynamics-ax-forum/369149/study-development-dfo365

When you get it, the environment already exists, AOT.

    D365 uses Azure SQL database.

    In fact, X ++ is similar to C #,

Extensibility is the only customization framework in Finance, Supply Chain, and Retail. Overlayering isn't supported.

Everything starts here, and it helps you a lot.

If you have any questions, you can post in the forum at any time. There will be enthusiastic responses to help you.
