Hi,
Currently, we are using AX 2012 R3 - 6.3.2000.326 version and SQL 2012 R2 with SP1 on the windows server 2012 R2 standard. We are planning to move windows server 2019 with the same AX 2012 R3 version. Is that possible? Or do we need to upgrade SQL or AX (cumulative patch) Please advise?
Best Regards,
Frank
SQL server 2019 is not supported with AX2012 R3. You can refer system requirement document.
Latest supported version is SQL server 2016.
If you go with below statement available in system requirement doc.
So officially, you should go with SQL server 2016 but with any SP version.
Note:
If you want to go with latest version of SP you should be upgrading CU and kernel version as well as you can see in my 1st snapshot.
Hi Ahmad,
I just want to know whether windows server 2019 is supported for AX2012 R3 CU9 and SQL server 2012 SP1. Do we need to upgrade both AX and SQL? If yes, what version do we need to upgrade AX and SQL ?
Hi Frank,
The same system requirements document will give you the answer. Windows Server 2019 is not supported. Windows Server 2016 can be used.
You can download the document here: Download Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 System Requirements from Official Microsoft Download Center
Hi Andre,
Thank you for your reply and sharing the AX system requirement document. I could notice that it was published in September 2017. I am not sure, maybe at that time, it was not supported to windows server 2019. Even my search didn't get any reference link from Microsoft that AX 2012 R3 with latest updates is not supported for windows server 2019. Is that possible if we upgrade the AX to the latest version (AX 2012 R3 with CU 12 and the KB4010490 and KB3217883) and SQL 2016 SP1 will work with windows server 2019? Kindly let me know the details.
Hello Frank,
If you see my comment above i have already pasted you snapshot.
Doc clearly says no newer versions supported. Any new service pack for already supported version will be supported.
That means SQL server 2019 will not be supported and SQL server 2016 you can go for any latest SP by upgrading AX version to latest.
And there will be no change in future. Hope this helps.
