Adding an OOB entity to a managed solution

Posted on by

Hi-

I have a managed solution that I have created.  In that managed solution I have a custom entity that has a custom field that does a lookup to the OOB 'wall view' entity.  When adding that lookup field, Dynamics added the 'wall view' entity to the list of components in my managed solution.

My question is-> When I export my managed solution and import it to another Dynamics 365 instance (target) will the wall view entity that is in my managed solution overwrite the wall view entity in the target instance?

Thanks so much!

Matt

    Hi,

First thing you can't do changes directly in managed solution not even CRM will do that, so when you are editing customization and your entity is added to solution it's in unmanaged state so when you will export it as managed and import it to your target organization deploy your changes and if you already have this solution in the target environment and something did some changes there it will also identify it and will ask if you do you want to retain or overwrite customization done in the target system.

Please check docs.microsoft.com/.../solutions-overview for more details

    Hi mroot,

When you export your managed solution and import it to a target instance, the wall view entity in your managed solution will overwrite the wall view entity in the target instance.

Managed solutions can modify the system solution components and add new components. If multiple managed solutions are installed, the first one installed is below the managed solution installed later. This means that the second solution installed can customize the one installed before it. When two managed solutions have conflicting definitions, the general rule is “Last one wins”. If you uninstall a managed solution, the managed solution below it takes effect. If you uninstall all managed solutions, the default behavior defined within the system solution is applied.
