Update Dynamics AX 2012 Client to CU 12

Hi all!

I updated some time ago AOS server to CU 12 and now I want update AX Client on the terminal server.

But when I try do it - I get notification with text "No database instance found where the hotfix package can be applied".

On the terminal server I have AX client with this configuration

Kernel version 6.3.164.0

Application version 6.3.5000.133

But on AOS server I have AX client with configuration

Kernel version 6.3.5000.138

Application version 6.3.5000.133

How can I fix it and update my AX client?

You need to run the binary/kernel upate only for the Client component, most likely you have selected more components than you should have.

Are you sure you are executing the correct AX update installer on the terminal server? The symptoms lead me to suspect that you have accidentally started update installer of an application hotfix package. Could you provide screenshots of the process?

At first I start EXE file from ax-build-numbers web-site .

Then Extract it and launch update application.

After it I download CU12 from LSC and try to update my AX client

Actually, now I remember that I have had similar problems trying to update some binary components (such as client) with the CU update installer. I have had this issue with quite many R3 CU versions. The only binary component that I could update with CU update installer was AOS.

For other binary components, I had to download standalone binary / kernel update package. My suggestion is to download the latest kernel version (link can be found here https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/axsupport/2012/03/29/overview-of-microsoft-dynamics-ax-build-numbers/), and apply it to all binary components (AOS, client, Help server, business connector etc).

Aha, that is your problem, you should make your own slip-streamed installer instead of downloading the updater tool by using the original AX installer kit DVD, and placing the slipstreamed CU12 installer available from LCS in the Updates subfolder on the kit. Then it will work as expected. Alternatively you may do as Nikolaos suggested, get a higher kernel binary-only patch, and apply it to all server where you have AX components deployed.

On your terminal server machine make sure you have the updated reports viewer per this blog post - blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../ax-2012-r3-why-is-my-kernel-build-version-not-changing-after-installing-cu-8-or-the-latest-binary-hotfix
