Hi,

In AX 2012 R3, i want to copy the Employee master details including employee name, employee id, all his personal details, contact information from one company of  live server and to show all employee details in one company of test instance. How i can achieve this.

Both test and live instance are in the same sever and same database.

Thanks in advance :)

Easiest and fastest way: SQL database backup and restore. Alternative options involve much more setup and/or infrastructure like Master Data Management tools and Data Import Export Framework.

    HI Vasanth,

You can use or the Data Import/Export Framework (DIXF) for this or use the Test Data Transfer Tool.

DIXF is easier for this requirement as the entities are flattening the normalized table structure.

    Vilmos and Andre,

    Thanks for your reply.

But here i am not using any excel datas, instead directly from one instance to another instance. I tried through definition groups import. But in this case, records are inserting to test instance, but not showing in the front end. And to use DMF, so many customized datas are also present.  So any other solution.

I forgot to mention that Employees are a global setup in AX2012, so these can be used in all legal entities. They are not related to a single company.

PS: SQL backup/restore will copy ALL data of ALL tables which I assumed this is not required here.

    Hi Andre,

Could you explain it with more description, I am finding difficult to understand.

When i import  all employee related tables through definition groups, all records are inserting in the back end. But i am unable to see in the front end. I am getting  warings like these, "Field Reference record ID(RefRecId) in table Document references(DocuRef) contains record ID 5637150581 that has not been loaded.

    Hi Vasanth,

The reason for Microsoft to introduce DIXF is dealing with record-ID references which is not done with use of definition groups. When records are inserted in tables they will get new record ID's. That is not recognized by the definition groups method. DIXF is able to deal with this. So try to use this tool and where needed, adjust the entities to be aligned with your customizations.

    Hi Andre,

As you said now i am trying through DIXF only. But here in live instance i mentioned the source data format as CSV and created the processing group, with"Employee" entity, generated the source file, mapping and exporting the employee details from  live. It is exporting with no errors.

But some of the employees are not exporting even though those employees are belong to the same entity(in "A" legal entity out of 380 employees only 340 employees are exporting  from CSV file) Why it is happening like this???

If i get all the employees i can easily import it to test instance  through DMF.

    Any solution pls???

Do you have any customizations around Employees? If yes, then the Entity might have to be prepared by your developers to be compatible with the customizations, before you could succesfully export and import it.

If there are no customizations around that area, maybe your data is corrupt, in which case one of your developers could debug the export process, and see which employees are being skipped and for what reason.

    Hi Vasanth,

There might be an inner join causing filtering employees which do not have some details. Can you identify some of the missing employees and see if there are differences in setup between them and employees which are actually exported? Do these missing employees have an employment?
