AX 2012 R3 and C#

Hi, I wanted to learn AX programming but it requires X++. As a C# programmer for WinRT and Windows phone, is there any opportunity to do C# programming on AX 2012 R3. Hope some1 can share some thoughts here. Thanks

You can do some development in C#, but you'll find it unavoidable to go inside AX and at the very least read some X++ code, but most likely also write a lot of X++ code. And all data model stuff needs to be done in AX anyway.

Of course, if you're looking to just develops apps for AX, that's a different story.

Honestly, the code and AOT structure are the easiest things to learn, especially with your background. The biggest hurdle for most new developers is learning the technical side of the functionality, and some of the weird patterns to use with AX. Regardless of programming language, you'll be faced with this.

As for R3, nothing major on the development front, except for some needed improvements on the support for Linq queries.

Hi

Also in R3 the AX logic is written in X++.

As Microsoft Best Practices, the logic must be always to be present inside AX AOT, so written in X++.

However, you can easily add X++ objects to your Visual Studio project and write managed code that accesses those objects.

Hi all,

Both of your inputs are helpful. With understanding the fundamental requirements from AX for AX development, I think I would like to know the mobility aspects for AX:

1) Accessing AX thru framework.

I want to know is there any new framework or component for Win8 Or WinRT and WP to communicate with AX? I could not remember the link which mentioned a framework was developed for WinRT.

I had seen some R3 and WinRT demo in YouTube . At this moment, accessing the data is thru Web Service. So is there a new framework that used in the demo?

I can confirm starting AX 2012 R2 itself, Dynamics AX is enbaled for C# programmer to develop any kind of application utilizing Dynamics AX functionality.

I confirm with full confidence you can design any kind of application in wich you can utilize Dynamics AX functionality unsing WCF web services.

Yes it is true if you want to modify any standard features logic, it is recommended to do all those changes using X++.
