Dynamics 365 Sales, Outlook 2016 w/ Dynamics 365 App for Outlook
Using the above and we are seeing contacts automatically created by SYSTEM; this is caused by use of the Dynamics 265 App for Outlook.
How do we stop this behavior?

Open your Personal Options in Dynamics 365 and untick the Create box of the automatically create records in Microsoft Dynamics 365 setting.

Do these contacts exist in Outlook before they are created in D365? Have you ever checked whether Outlook contacts are tracked in Dynamics 365?
To do this, you need to
1) Click the Outlook Contacts tab.
2) In the contacts list, select the check box next to the appropriate contact(s).
3) On the ribbon, click Track or Untrack.
