SQL Runtime license Question

If we sell a client a SQL Runtime license with GP and then they came along and want to add SalesPad which maintains it own SQL database. Does that violate the GP SQL Runtime license or since all databases are GP related is it OK?

    RE: SQL Runtime license Question

    Hi Richard,

This was my understanding as well.. I remember a few years ago some similar situation with a SQL runt-time license provided for Prophix 11.x (which is a financial reporting tool for GP), and they wouldn't allow any other DB on it..

Customers wouldn't don't want to pay for a full SQL Standard license to install other apps, could still use SQL Express, though they need to be aware of its limitations. But it's free..

PS: to get a pasted picture display on a proper size, you have to edit the pixel size once pasted in the answer.. (by default it's tiny, so just change the values to something double or three times default values (i.e .320x240 to 960x720).

OK, I give up. The answer is that it must be a GP database. It can't be CRM, Salespad or any third-party or custom database.

I found the answer right inside the GP Price Sheet. Here it is:

I got no where with this. I do not have access to the link and calling gets you people who have no idea what I am asking.

    RE: SQL Runtime license Question

    Sales Operations reply was:

"We understand that you would like to know about SQL availability for GP license. To resolve queries, we would appreciate if you can contact the presales team as they specialise in requests of this nature"

I did not know there was such a team. Stay tuned for their reply.

    Technical Presales for Partners:

    or
    888-477-7989 or 800-456-0025
    Option 1: Presales

    RE: SQL Runtime license Question

I submitted this question to sales operations yesterday. As soon as I get a reply I will post it here.

    RE: SQL Runtime license Question

I'd recommend contacting a partner contact if applicable or else the MBS Operations team at mbsorder@microsoft.com.

They handle all the licensing and selling of Dynamics GP, including the SQL Runtime licensing that is provided along with Dynamics GP, so they'd be better able to answer this question for you then we can on the technical support side.

    Thanks

I been trying to find that myself.. supposedly its for GP only..   but does it count if the other software is related to GP ? like smart connect, it creates additional db but does that violate ?

Given how strict MS is, I would say GP only, but I can't find that info anywhere.

    RE: SQL Runtime license Question

I'm not completely sure on SQL licensing, hopefully someone on community here has information on that side. Normally, I'd refer this type of question to our MBS Operations team.

I know for Dynamics GP registration keys we're only allowed to use them for one live/production environment, then you can also use on test environments.

My thoughts is that it wouldn't violate the SQL Runtime license, but again, I can't guarantee that, so wouldn't want you to take my comments as 100% accurate.

    Thanks
