Error Importing Contacts

Posted on by 1,846

Hi All,

I am upgrading from CRM 2015 on prem to Dynamics 365.

I have imported all customizations successfully but issue is in data uploading.

Issue:

Multiple accounts with same name exist in CRM. When I try to upload contacts there is a "duplicate lookup reference found" error which fails the contact import. I mapped GUID with Account Number in CRM on-prem and imported the accounts, now while mapping Parent Company in Contact lookup reference field I selected Account Number (which is now GUID). But still the same issue. There are more than 10,000 contact records to be uploaded and more than 200 accounts exist with same name.

    Hi,

For people who are still having issues here is the solution.

    1. You have to add unique field, in my case I copied GUID to account number as my account number field was empty.

    2. While importing contacts I choose Account Number from Parent Company in view and imported all the contacts.

    3. Now I replaced the column Company Name with Account Number data, header remains Company Name, in contact sheet

    4. Lastly I did the mapping as described in following article (Mapped Account Number instead of Company Name in Parent Account Lookup)

    Hi,

by looking the article i shared above, you see that, when doing the mapping, you can choose the account number.

    Thank you Wei Jie,

I have gone through many such blogs, one thing which I am unable to understand is how to put Account Number under Company column in contact sheet?

If I import contacts from my environment Company name contains Names instead of numbers. Please if someone can explain procedure to import contacts with account number or any other unique column.

    Hi,

do you have other unique field in account? if yes, use that as import criteria.

    Justin,

Im not able to understand why should i go into duplicate detection rules? Accounts are just imported fine. I just need to map the Contacts to the correct Account.

I don't want to delete any account. Although they have same name.

No problem, by turning the duplicate detection rules off for "same account name" would that not allow you to import the accounts without the error of duplicates detected.

Go to Settings > Data Management.

Choose Duplicate Detection Rules and see if you have anything active for accounts with same name (by default i believe in dynamics 365 you do)

    Hi,

Thank you but i need the accounts with same name. I can't delete or ignore them.

You should check your duplicate Detection settings / or you could turn them off for account name before you do the import, that may help?
