Does anyone know how to create a 64-bit 2008 sql database from Forecaster's Database Creation Wizard? When I try and create one by selecting the Server name, choose "use SQL server authentication", and click Next, it just exits the screen and nothing happens...
When I tested with a 32-bit version of 2008 SQL, I had no problems...
Any help would be greatly appreicated!
Thanks,
Jae
Hey Jae,
We ran into this problem when using the Database Creation Wizard on a newly installed version of Forecaster on a 64bit Windows 7 machine. Forecaster itself worked fine. We applied the SQL 2008 64 bit components (Native Client, System CLR Types and Management Objects) as recommended, and were able to move past the initial login screen, but it would still fail and close when it began creating the database. We eventually installed the 32 bit versions of the CLR and Mgt. Objects components along side the 64 bit versions and it worked fine. The 32 bit Native Client would not install, so we skipped that one.

Hello Ryan,
I've read that article and have downloaded the latest SharedManagementObjects.msi and sqlncli.msi.
The SharedManagementObjects.msi installs just fine but the sqlncli.msi installer says that the server already has a higher version of SQL Server 2008 Native Client.
I don't have a 64 bit test environment where I could uninstall the "higher version" and try the older on...I am trying to keep all the Great Plains and Forecaster databases on one server.
I'm wondering if there will be issues for Great Plains users when uninstalling the higher version to install the older version that maybe Forecaster can communicate with.
Yes, if all else fails...I can create the database on a 32bit server.
Hi Jae,
Forecaster uses a 32-bit SQL 2005 dll to connect to SQL. This works sometimes on SQL 2008 depending on some things, but definitely has more problems on SQL 2008.
The KB here has been used several times to fix many different operating system/sql versions of this error. The KB is just installing SQL support files, not an actual SQL server so don't worry about
how strange the solution sounds.

If you follow these steps it will resolve your error from this box. Alternatively you can create the database from another machine.
Thanks
