Hi All ,

In AX 2012 , we have the definition groups and Data migration frame work . I came to know that both we can use to import the data in AX application .

a) When we have DG( Definition groups) , again why again MS released the new tool DMF?

b) Could any one explain which one is the best source ( Either Definition groups or DMF ) to import the data ?

c) What is the current version of DMF ? and share the link to download the DMF tool ?

    Hi Lally,

In addition, have a look at the next page: technet.microsoft.com/.../aa548629.aspx

This will explain all tools and suggestions to use which tool for which scenario. The DG (dat/def) is only noted at one scenario.

RE: Definition group Vs Data import Export Framework

Why Microsoft released a new tool? Because it can do much more then the old one. The crucial difference is that DMF doesn't work just with individual tables, it understand which tables are needed for a single entity, can deal with global address book, RecId references and so on. (This logic is encapsulated in entity classes.) It also supports many different data formats.

The latest version is the one included in AX 2012 R3. Please find details about other versions (and additional information you may need) in the documentation: Data import/export framework user guide.
