Data Entities: error reporting during import

When I run my import, and something does not work, the messages shown are not very helpful.

So far only by running the import through the debugger have I been able to determine what the issue is.

Is this the 'normal mode of operation', or is there another way to get more info on the error.

The execution log only says this: (same for infolog):

But the real issue is this:
