how is the relationship between the WAVE , WORK, Shipment and LOAD ?

Dear

i am trying to understand the relationship between the WAVE , WORK, Shipment and LOAD?

For Example

1 Wave = 1 Work

whereas

1 Wave could have multiple shipments and the Shipment has a Load; and the 1 Load = 1 Item (or Product)

is there a simple way to explain AX logic as to how the WMS considers things and how they are related to work on the ground?

Does AX consider a Shipment as a real actual shipment ? definition of shipment means a group of items that leave the warehouse at the same time in the same meduim (whether truck , car , plane or boat)

i am sure you have interesting things to share in this area , thanks a lot in advance

Regards

    Hi.

In scenarios where you are not adding Sales orders to Loads manually:

'Release to warehouse' creates Shipments and Shipment Lines. A shipment is a single delivery (of items) to a single address (and same mode of delivery). This means that the shipment lines of multiple Sales orders for the same delivery address and mode of delivery could be on the same Shipment.

After creating the Shipment, AX will look if there is a Wave template which matches the Shipment. If it finds one, settings on the Wave template could cause AX to create a new Wave, or add the Shipment to an existing wave. (Or, it may stop here, and you'll have to add the Shipment to a Wave manually). A single Shipment can only be on one Wave. There can be multiple Shipments on one Wave.

A Wave is one or more Shipments that should be released to the Warehouse at the same time for Picking (this is done when the Wave is 'Processed'). AX would try to create one instance of Work for all the Shipment lines on a single Wave (and you use Work templates and Location directives to break that work up if you want to). When you 'Process' a Wave, AX will also add the Shipment Lines to a Load. A Load is a collection of Shipments that are to be delivered at the same time (probably represents a single vehicle, if you are using Loads), and can be largely ignored if you are not particularly using them. A Load can have multiple Shipments. A single Shipment can have only one Load (I think; maybe it is possible to assign shipment lines to different Loads. I never tried).

It is also possible to add a Sales order to a Load before you do 'Release to warehouse'. In this case, adding the Sales order to the Load creates the Shipment lines (which are the same as Load lines). 'Release to warehouse' then tries to add these Shipment lines to Waves as before.
