Appointment Status after creation (Open, Scheduled)

We have this odd behavior where Appointment created on Case sometimes goes into Scheduled status and sometimes goes into Open status.

Both such appointments are created by same User. In some scenario when checked the Audit History it shows that after Update event Appointment is going into Scheduled status.

Is there documentation available where it clearly calls out how the Status is transitioned after it is created in CRM?

Thanks

Makarand

    Hi partner,

When you create an appointment in CRM, the status is by default 'scheduled' - this means that it will show as a conflicting appointment when booking other appointments. If this appointment is marked as 'tentative' in Outlook then it will be changed to 'Open' and will not prevent other appointments from being booked at this time.

    From: https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/microsoft-dynamics-crm-forum/222788/how-to-change-the-status-of-a-meeting-from-open-to-scheduled

In addition, from the structure of D365, the "Status" change is determined by the "Status Reason" field.

The following is a matching table for "Status Reason" and "Status":

    Value Label State State Label
    1 Free 0 Open
    2 Tentative 0 Open
    3 Completed 1 Completed
    4 Canceled 2 Canceled
    5 Busy 3 Scheduled
6 Out of Office 3 Scheduled

When Status Reason is Busy and Out of Office, Status is Scheduled. So when a new appointment is created, its status is Scheduled.

When Status Reason is Free and Tentative, Status is Open. So when the appointment is marked as 'tentative' in Outlook, its status is Open.

Hi all I am having a similar issue:

I have an appointment created directly from the activities entity. When saved, the status is set to scheduled which blocks the time on the corresponding owner's Outlook (status in Outlook: Busy):

However, when I create and save an appointment from an account (timeline), the status on D365 is set to Open while the corresponding status on Outlook is Free:

Is there any particular reason why appointments created from an account are not synchronizing the status? And is there a way to possibly solve this issue?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same issue as Fran2105.  Why is this still happening and how do I fix it so that you get the same results either way you create it?

    Thanks,

I've had the same problem - deactivating the quick create form for appointments has solved it. Now, even when created from the timeline, the appointments have the scheduled state as expected.
