Hi,
We have 5 licences on the Customer Engagement plan and the Marketing Attachment licence. We would like to have the Marketing application on a development environment, and subsequently we would like to deploy the changes done on this environment to production. How does this work? Do we need another Marketing licence?

Hi Kelly,
We always recommend that a customer have a sandbox and a production instance if possible. This way you have a test environment to try out new functionality as well as design/build other solutions you wish to have in the production environment. But it is absolutely doable to do what you are suggesting, again just pay heed to the links I posted above. Especially the uninstall and reinstall information. You can break an environment if you try to do a copy/restore as you would on Dynamics C+E system.

Thanks for your reply. I will go through the links you sent me.
This is a new instance of Dynamics 365 so nobody is using it yet, we will be using the system once all customizations are built and tested. We are thinking of configuring Marketing on the sandbox environment and once it's ready and tested we switch it to production. Is this recommended?

The short answer is that you can use one license back and forth between two instances but it will be painful and isn't recommended. You will always have one instance that isn't viable until it is re-licensed. You will definitely want to pay attention to the links below if you choose to take this route. The suggested route is to purchase an additional Marketing Sandbox or you would be eligible for the free Marketing license with 5 more C+E Plan or Dynamics Plan licenses.
