Power BI desktop new version causing error deploy ?

Hello guys,

Anyone knows there is some issue with Power BI desktop latest version which is not compatible with F&O ?

I was trying to embed my custom Power BI report, also failed recently and I was heard there is some Preview Feature in its latest version that make this failing.

And does anyone here know when the issue will be fix ?

or starting to be more care about analytics in F&O in this matter

Appreciate any insight. Thanks

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Tony,

Have not heard something about that.

If this is urgent, open a support ticket with MS and / or have a look at the powerbi community forum whether there is something noted there.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi,

Yes, actually there is some topic pointed out this. The guy also raise a ticket and being told by Microsoft Support to downgrade to older version (before Sep 2020)

It's just I need a formal information for this so I can talk to management. Also there will be a "tough" job as well to re-do again what we already created in the new version to the older one, since it was told that cannot open the new PBIX in old version.

It is really frustrating to see very small effort of Power BI (and overall Analytics) toward F&O.

    Hi Tony,

unfortunately, newer versions of Power BI Desktop cannot be used for Power BI integration in Dynamics 365 F&O.

You will find more information on LCS:

Issue 482564 - Error "Failed to publish Power BI Embedded report xxxxx." when using "Store datasets using enhanced metadata format" preview feature in Power BI Desktop
    .

Integration with Power BI in Dynamics 365 F&O will transition in the future to a more flexible architecture with an expanded set of customer options for extending solutions based on Azure Data Lake services. Current implementation of the existing Power BI integration in Dynamics 365 F&O will not change before it, therefore using previous versions of Power BI Desktop (August 2020 update with Preview features turned off, or older) is the only solution to this issue. Previous updates can be found at:

Previous monthly updates to Power BI Desktop

If you create Power BI reports to embed them in analytical workspaces, you can test the deployment of the reports by deploying them to PowerBI.com service first. If integration with PowerBI.com service is not used in Dynamics, you could consider configuring it for this purpose. The steps are:

    1. Create an app registration in AAD and fill in PowerBI.com configuration form in Dynamics as described in Configure PowerBI.com integration.
    2. Upload report's pbix file to the Asset library in your LCS project.
    3. Use Deploy Power BI files option under System administration/Setup in Dynamics to deploy the report.

I hope this helps you further.

    Hi Jolanta,

Big appreciation on sharing this. (and your reply) Just what I'm looking for so at least I can speak to my management about this.

    Many thanks.

RE: Power BI desktop new version causing error deploy ?

    Hi Jolanta,

Pardon me for asking, do you know any community or forum which discussing more on Analytics, BI development in F&O, and of course with Power BI as the tools. Beside this forum or https://community.powerbi.com/ ?

I'm not saying that this community not good, but when talking (or asking) about BI development, aggregate measurement, embedded, etc, all those stuff is hard to get the right feedback (when it is right, it may take months, but I'm not saying I need it fast either. If it is urgent I can raise ticket) And same as in Power BI community, sometime it is hard for them to understand why we "have to" use Direct Query or if there is something wrong while embed in Dynamics F&O.

So, it is really like there is no place to ask or looking for advice if it is related to Analytics in F&O.

    Thanks,

There is a dedicated Analytics and Reporting in D365 for Operations (formerly AX) group on Yammer.

    www.yammer.com/.../

You might want to sign up for the Insider Program on experience.dynamics.com in order to be able to join this group.

    Hi Jolanta,

The link you shared to download previous monthly Updates worked earlier.

There is no setup file to download from this page anymore. Unable to find it in the Product Page of PowerBI Desktop as well.

Could you please share if this is moved to another page?

    Hi Crispin,

thank you for asking. We made it available for download in the Shared asset library in LCS. You can find it under Model asset type.

Issue 482564 - Error "Failed to publish Power BI Embedded report xxxxx." when using "Store datasets using enhanced metadata format" preview feature in Power BI Desktop

    And documented in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/analytics/author-distribute-power-bi-reports#accessing-the-local-entity-store-by-using-directquery.

RE: Power BI desktop new version causing error deploy ?

I would like to add to my last answer that starting with 10.0.22/PU46, using newer versions of Power BI Desktop and, in consequence, the new report format is supported. Both integrations, with PowerBI.com (PBI.com) service and with Power BI Embedded service (referred to as PBIE V2 on our side).

In the new implementation of Power BI Embedded (10.0.22/PU46 and up), the reports are stored in workspaces in Power BI Embedded capacity, and not in Workspace Collections as it was the case in previous versions (up to 10.0.21/PU45).

For your information, PBIE V2 is ON by default in any new environments deployed with PU46 release. The same is valid for any environments that were upgraded to PU46 - they are automatically migrated to use PBIE V2 during the upgrade downtime window.

Should you see any new issue with Power BI in 10.0.22/PU46, consider reporting it in a support request.

Some custom Power BI embedded  reports stopped working after 10.0.22 with error 'Failed to publish Power BI Embedded'. We tried with latest version as well but same error.
