Customize Lookups in Outlook App

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I'm using the "new" Outlook App in a setup with CRM Online version 9.

This client handles a large set of account and have high degree of transparency for the users. Which makes searching a big deal.

So a simple task as creating a new contact from an email and connect it to an account is very hard because it only searches for the first columns of the lookup view. Is there any way around this?

Thank you Drew for taking your time.

Sure I'll try to be more concrete.

Let's say the scenario a User would like to create a new contact in Dynamics App 365 for Outlook.

    1. Open the email. Go to quick create contact

    2. Fill in details regarding names and contact information

    3. click in account (A lookup field) to associate it

    4. Get a new few of last search Account and Contacts. Start typing in the field "Test Account, Stockholm"

Expect to find at least one account. But no account are available

If I do the same steps as above in CRM through Chrome. Use + sign in Menu and select to create a new Contact. I see the same fields but when searching for "Test Account, Stockholm" I find my record.

It looks like same field Account on Quick create form for Dynamics 365 App and Quick create in Chrome react in different ways

I am sorry Jonathan, everything I am trying is working as I expect.  Please help me understand the "lookup fields in Outlook app".  Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are trying to do.  Can you add a screen shot?

    Thanks,

Tried this. I've a field "SearchString" the value is the concatenation of Account Name and Business City. This is part of the quick search fields. When search in Global Search (Outlook) or any Lookup in Web interface I can find data on this but when using the lookup fields in Outlook app I can't find anything

    Hi Jonathan,

The find is based on the "Quick Find View" of the entity and the columns that you select to be searched.  You can edit which columns to search if you update this view.

I tested this by using the "Find" in Outlook with the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook and used the "Business Phone" number and it found my contact since this is one of the fields that is flagged to be searched with this view:

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,
