Can someone please shade more light on the standard dynamics nav 2009 Item tracing (for product traceability.) thus how it works and when to use it and who is supposed to use it.

Hi Larry,
Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Dynamics Community Forum. Item Tracing functionality is used in conjunction with Lot and/or Serial Number Tracking. If you have items using Item Tracking with Specific Tracking enabled, the Item Tracing feature provides the ability to trace a LN or SN through from origin to usage or vice versa. It would be especially beneficial in the case of a recall for a specific LN where customers must be identified for the recall, etc.
I hope this helps.
Thanks
Tom

Hie Tom,
Thank you so much for the help. i found it so interesting to use this standard nav functionality for traceability since its now a 'must' for food and beverages industries to engage into product traceability as it saves on cost of product recalls and the same time saves lives of people when an infected batch is exposed to the people.
we use Lot tracking in our system and i have tried to trace our item tracked product with a specific Lot number and it well.At this i no longer have the confusion on how it works. my problem now is, we would like to incorporate the QA functionality on certification process of items tested during and after manufacturing process so that we can always refer to the certification by our QA department interms of a recall. i had the better solution as bcfood but unfortunately they cant provide the service to us. Anyone with a good option for me.
thanks
Larry
