Hi,
With the recent GP18.3 named printer with word template, has anyone encountered an issue after setting named printer , it print using default setting rather setting from the named printer.
Your thoughts would be welcomed and much appreciated.
Thanks
Kanti
Hi Kanti,
I presume you followed the instructions provided here :
community.dynamics.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-gp-fall-2020---disable-print-dialog-when-printing-to-word
I remember that named printer has never been very intuitive to setup, and the fact that it now supports Word Templates hasn't made it easier to configure than before.
I'd go thru the user guide about named printer and check about the users and computers that are affected. Was it working before the upgrade ? what other changes were made to the configuration ?
see here for instructions: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-gp/installation/systemadminguide#setting-up-named-printers
Kantilal, I believe you've also opened a support case with my team, so I'll let you work with that engineer.
That being said, please share with this forum if you should come to a resolution via the support case.
Hi Beat,
Thanks and we have gone through named printer setting.
Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
Hi Derek,
Thanks and will work the engineer on this and update the post as when.
Hello All, As the one who worked to get this implemented, I wanted to answer here. As I also assisted on the case in question, this will hopefully save you some time needing to post here again
Overall, it is very important to note that the functionality is called "Disable System Print Dialog Box when printing a Word Template". This is because that is all we are doing. We are simply using previously added windows and functionality (named printers) to be able to get the print dialog to stop appearing. This does NOT give users the full Named Printers functionality within templates.
There is more information here:https://community.dynamics.com/gp/b/dynamicsgp/posts/why-are-my-word-templates-only-printing-to-my-default-windows-printer-when-selecting-printer-in-the-system-dialog-box
The general idea here is that Word has 100% of the control of the printer being used when Word Templates are involved. We simply only have two options when using templates: tell Word to Print, or tell it to open. We don't have any options in relation to the printing process like what printer to select, how many copies to print, or even what orientation to use. Word instead will always use your default printer options. Since it didn't matter what you put in the print dialog when it used to pop up, we added this new option to simply remove the options entirely. I will look to update the article to point this out to avoid the confusion.
