Migrating attachments into case module

Posted on by 275

Hi All,

I am currently configuring the case management module for my organisation. Regarding data management, we need to migrate comments and attachments (where any) with the cases that we migrate into the new system.

1) I am having error msgs uploading attachments into notes. For starters, my notes template does not have a regarding column and i think this is where the issue is. I just downloaded it from crm in the settings --> data import template area.  I have logged a call to MS and they are saying that it is an issue vaguely. What i don't know is if this is a known issue with D365?

Steps I used:-

Error msg. I am unable to add the import files i have used with sample data.

2) I am thinking about maybe doing a sharepoint integration against the case module and store documents there. Is this a good way to go about it?

I have heard not so good things about notes and attachments. I also have a portal connected to the case management module which means when a portal comment is added, the attachment needs to hit the document area (not sure how this will look)

Thanks!

J

    Hi J,

It is not a good idea to store documents within CRM i.e. uploading it on the notes entity. This will increase your online storage and will cost your client to pay more for storage. The recommended option is to enable CRM & SharePoint integration and train your users to upload any documents in SharePoint.

With the out of box CRM & SharePoint integration, a folder is created for each record in SharePoint. Users can either directly upload document to that location or use CRM UI to upload document to SharePoint.

For portals, unfortunately the integration is not yet supported i.e. you cannot surface the SharePoint document in portals *yet*. However this will be release in the October release (i.e. hopefully soon)

    Hope this help
