Customer Insights with just one (entity) data source?

Hi!

I have a fairly simple requirement - I want to use customer insights to unify contact-data (from Dynamics 365) with activity data from a marketing system (clicked emails, opened emails, etc).

So I set up data sources for Dynamics 365, as well as data source for the other systems that contains the marketing interactions.

Now I want to go through the map, match and merge steps, but I am unable to do so since I only have one data source with Customer data - Dynamics 365. As stated above, the other data sources contain activities - not customer data.

But in the map/match/merge steps require me to have at least two customer data sources. It seems I am missing something fundamental here... How can I complete the setup with just one customer data source?

Thanks!

//Andreas

    Hi Andreas!

    Thanks for asking about this.  We are working right now (April 2022) on a new capability to allow 'single entity unification'.
    You should see this in the product very soon.

    Hi Andreas,

    If you want to proceed now, I would get the id's of the profiles in your marketing system (maybe they are equal to your profiles id's in D365). Get these in a entity and M3 these into your D365 Profiles. And then connect your activities via this id through a relationship..

    This will be the "correct" way to connect activities from various systems (with various id's) to the profile.

    Hi Francis,

    Andreas' issue is that today, you can't perform the Unify action (Map, Match & Merge) with a single customer profile entity.  Unify requires at least two customer profile entities.

    When we ship the update to support single entity unification, we will run any deduplication rules and we will skip over the match step since there is no 2nd entity to match against.

    Any update on the timeline of this feature? I tried adding a second entity with example data as a workaround for using only one data source, but the merge process doesn't give me any results even though I checked "include all" on the datasource in use. Is it possible to create customer profiles without merging? I just want all records from the single data source as customer profiles, simple as that.

    Single entity unification will be available July 6th, 2022
