Sitemap Designer Icon error - "Enter a valid value."

When customising my Sitemap using the built-in Sitemap Designer, I get the error "Enter a valid value." when trying to change the Icon of an area. The icon has previously been saved and published as a web resource but setting the value as "$webresource:sample_/Images/SampleIcon85x71.png" still doesn't work.

Any ideas? Am I meant to have done more with the image than just upload it as a Web Resource?
