Hi,
I am trying to create my first Report in CRM via VS2017 with fetch XML.
I installed “Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence” for my VS, but when I want to create a new Data Source, as described in many blogs with pictures, there must be Type (in Data Source wizard) "Microsoft Dynamics CRM Fetch", but in my case in Type section there is no such a Type.
Who knows why it is absent and how to get that type in my VS. Here is the link, where it shows the type to select: https://citydynamics.com/insight/thought-leadership/writing-customer-reports-using-fetchxml-in-microsoft-dynamics-365/.
Thanks!
Hi Lu Hao and Piyush Paliwal,
Thanks to you both!
Finally, I could install "Reporting Extension for Dynamics CRM". This link: https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/117/t/202290 solved my error issue.
And after that, I did as you mentioned above and it worked. Now I can see the type "Microsoft Dynamics 365 Fetch".
Hi partner,
I recommend that you keep only one version of Visual Studios in your machine, and the two versions are easy to interact with each other.
Just keep the 2015 version of Visual Studios. This version I used in my machine is fine.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Lu Hao
Also, I have both Visual Studios in my machine. Can it the cause to that error?
I did all the steps as you mentioned. Installed VS 2015 SSDT , but during installation of Dynamics 365 Report Authoring Extension it gave the same issue which was earlier. maybe I need to install VS 2012 SSDT ??
That is what am trying to say that the reporting extension is not compatible with VS 2017 SSDT. You need to do the following
Let me know if still the installation fails. Once you will install the Report Authoring Extension, only then the "Dynamics 365 Fetch" would start to show up. Feel free to reply in case you have any confusion.
I already installed SSDT with Visual Studio 2017, and it installed without errors, but as I mentioned above, "Microsoft Dynamics CRM Fetch" Type or "Microsoft Dynamics 365 Fetch" Type absent in it. Cant't find this type like in this picture :
Alright I think the issue you are facing is because of the VS 2017, this reporting extension doesn't support VS 2017 yet. You can take a look at the system requirements for Reporting Extension here www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx. I would suggest you installed the 2015 or 2012 data tools and then try installing this and you should be good to go.
As of now the log file clearly says "Some required components are missing"
Let me know if this helps you resolve the issue and also mark this as Verified if the solution helps.
Are you under any firewall with restrictions to download, etc?
