Timeline on a dashboard

Hi Experts
With a sales enterprise license - when I add a timeline to a dashboard it is showing me all the recent updates that I have made.   I do not understand the value in this - can someone explain?
 
Instead I would like it to show me all the recent updates on records that I am an owner of, or following or connected to.   Is this possible out the box?  And if not out the box - how could it be done?

    You can use the timeline to view information that is connected to a row in a table and occurs over time in a single stream.
    The timeline allows you to view all the information related to your activities in time order at a glance,
    which will be useful when you need to see the history of your interactions with customers.
     
    First of all, Timeline can only add custom table of the activity type.
    Second, according to the documentation, timeline filtering is limited to filtering by time order and activity type. It can't filter on the owner in the same way as a view.
    Finally, if you need to see every update to your records, it is recommended that you use the audit feature:
