D365 F&O and integrating project operations

Hello all!

I'm wondering if anyone has succesfully integrated F&O with project operations without dual-write?
Any good connectors available or other smart solutions?

    Hi,

I am not aware of any other solutions, but if you would want to avoid the dual-write and going down the line of creating own custom integration, you may end up missing all the new developments/enhancements that Microsoft is putting on top of existing solution.

Project Operations is a Model Driven Power App, based on the Dataverse tables. By somehow, or by any means, you will need to inject data in those datavserse tables. Indeed you can import data in dataverse tables, using many ways including import using excel or other ways (such as Dataflows) https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/data-platform/import-export-data

I have not tested, how the Project Operations would behave on the Power Apps side, without you having enabled the Dual-Write. Would it work, or give errors, I am not sure.

You may want to take your pain-points of dual-write to the Microsoft and discuss with them.

I'm interested, what would be the reason you would want to do this? Why not use the tried, tested, and supported method MS provide?

    Thanks
    Anthony

    Hello @Anthony Blake

As we have custom integrations between F&O and D365 Sales, and specially in Sales we have custom tables.

Also as we have two dataverse instances due to security reasons making dual write not applicable (seperation between F&O and Sales). Not the ideal situation, but was not thought of at the time of implementation several years ago.

The work to get there would be very hefty, just for enabling project operations.

    Hi,

In case you have multiple Dataverse environments, it will be really hard. Are you able to reconfigure the environments? If not, I'm afraid you have to do a lot of work yourself. In new implementations, I only have seen and used the dual-write option.

I'm not sure what will be the future vision from Microsoft for Project Operations. What if the Dataverse and F&O parts will be merged even more? Then in the worst case, dual-write becomes mandatory.
