Understanding SQL Standard Runtime License in NAV

Hi All,

Just want to ask regarding the packaged SQL Standard Runtime License in NAV.

Do we need to buy a separate license for SQL Standard before we can use the runtime license that was packaged in NAV proposal?

Or there is any download link in the partnersource or customersource for the SQL Standard?

Thanks In Advance..

Paul

SQL Standard Runtime and SQL Standard are the same thing. The only difference is that with the "Runtime" edition you are only authorized to use it as database engine for Dynamics NAV. You must not use it for any other purpose or application.

So you don't need to download SQL Standard, you can download SQL Runtime from PartnerSource, for example:

    SQL 2014 Standard Runtime: https://mbs.microsoft.com/partnersource/global/support/support-news/SQLServer2014_STD_ReleaseDownload

If you need any other version, just search for "SQL Runtime" in the Partnersource search box.

If you go for SQL Runtime, you need to order from Microsoft Dynamics Partnersource Business Center, a Server license and CAL's for each NAV user.

You could also go for classic SQL Standard from your local Microsoft vendor, but this is much more expensive option, not worthed if you just need SQL Server for Dynamics NAV

SQL Server 2014 Runtime Client Access License (CALs) are licensed per (named) user or per device. Each individual directly or indirectly accessing SQL data (through a Microsoft Dynamics UI or any other mode) must be licensed with a SQL Server CAL. If the individual accesses the information uniquely via shared devices (and no other mode), those devices may be covered with SQL Server CALs, instead of having to license a SQL Server CAL for that individual, as long as the customer acquires a SQL Server CAL for each of those devices. SQL Server CAL is not licensed concurrently.

This is awesome. May I also know if there is a link coming from customersource? We need to ask the customer to download this.
