How to Troubleshoot Slow Performance in Dynamics 365 CRM?

Hello,
I’m currently experiencing performance issues with my Dynamics 365 CRM. The system is running slower than usual, and certain actions (like loading records and generating reports) take significantly longer than expected. I have already tried clearing cache and optimizing my system, but the issue persists.

I would appreciate any advice on the following:

  1. What are the common causes of slow performance in Dynamics 365 CRM?
  2. Are there any best practices for improving performance or optimizing system speed?
  3. Can this issue be linked to certain customizations, plugins, or integrations?

Thank you in advance for your insights!

    Hey!

There are several factors to verify here
    a) Are we talking Online (where your environment is running on Microsoft's infrastructure) or OnPremise (where you're the owner of the underlying resources)?  If you're the owner of the resources you should check performance on servers (FrontEnds & DB).
    b) When talking about Online, you should take a look at the way the API requests are behaving.  You can use PowerPlatform Admin Center for this.  A higher number of API might be reaching limitations, for example.
    c) Of course Customizations/Plugins/Integrations will affect performance:  If you have a form that is loading data from a third party system through querying an API, the form itself might take time to render as it waits for values.
    d) Certain customizations (Adding entities and relationships) will require more processing, as they will need to query more tables/entities to retrieve data.
    e) One of the most common causes is the use of Description fields in Views/Querys.  This will bloat storage or can cause performance issues while searching for data.

Ultimately, if you have a specific section that is having a performance issue (IE, creating Leads or Cases) you can raise a request to Microsoft to verify what's causing the performance.

    1. Optimize Forms and Views: Remove unnecessary fields, subgrids, and columns in forms and views.
    2. Simplify Dashboards: Limit components like charts and subgrids for faster loading.
    3. Reduce Workflows and Plugins: Review and streamline custom plugins and workflows.
    4. Optimize fetch XML queries.
    5. Check API Usage: Monitor API consumption in Power Platform Admin Center and schedule integrations during off-peak hours.
    6. Monitor Dataverse Storage: Ensure you’re within capacity limits under Resources > Capacity.
    7. Analyze Network Latency: Use the Diagnostics Tools to measure it.
    8. Review Browser Performance: Use supported browsers, clear cache, and disable unnecessary extensions.
    9. Limit Data in Reports: Filter datasets to avoid retrieving large amounts of data.
    10. Check System Health: Verify Microsoft service health via Power Platform Admin Center.
