Hi,
You can try to check the system requirements: verify if the new version of SQL Server is compatible with your Dynamics AX (AX 2012 R3 CU13) version. View the system requirements and compatibility matrix for SQL Server and Dynamics AX.
In addition, as Andre mentioned, AX has been updated to D365 FO, you can try to use FO and get help on this forum Dynamics Community Forum Thread.

SQL2016SP3 for Dynamics AX2012R3CU13 ?

Hi Sebastian,

There is no official documentation about compatibility for SQL Server 2016 SP3 from Microsoft in the system requirements guide: Download Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 System Requirements from Official Microsoft Download Center

This doesn't mean that it will not work, but it is not tested for compatibility anymore. Note that the mainstream support for AX 2012 has ended.
