Why is it that after I blocked a sender, they were still able to send me an email, via an automatic reply, email and is it possible for senders to still send me emails as a reply after I blocked them?
Hi there! Good morning, evening, or afternoon - depending on where you are :) Hope you are well today!
Apologies if you've already tried these, here are some thoughts:
Blocking a sender in most email systems, including Outlook, typically moves their emails to the Junk or Spam folder rather than completely preventing them from being delivered. Here’s why you might still receive emails from a blocked sender:
1. Automatic Replies
Automatic replies, such as out-of-office messages, are often treated differently by email systems. They may bypass blocking rules because they are system-generated and not sent directly by the blocked sender.
2. Replies to Your Emails
If you’ve previously sent an email to the blocked sender, their reply might still reach you. Some email systems prioritize replies to your messages, even if the sender is blocked.
3. Domain-Level Blocking
If you’ve only blocked a specific email address and not the entire domain, the sender might use a different address within the same domain to contact you.
4. Email Rules and Filters
Blocking a sender doesn’t always prevent their emails from being delivered. Instead, it redirects them to the Junk or Spam folder. If you want to ensure these emails are completely ignored, you can create a rule to delete them automatically upon arrival.
How to Strengthen Blocking:
Check Your Block List: Ensure the sender’s email address or domain is correctly added to the block list.
Set Up Rules: Create a rule to permanently delete emails from the blocked sender.
Contact Your Email Provider: If the issue persists, reach out to your email provider for additional blocking options.
