Having issues regarding printing from DAX. Randomly the default printer is changing in user sessions. Has anybody else had experience with this issue.

    Hi

What version of Dynamics AX is this?

Can you tell us a bit more about the printer setup? Like are all users printing through same printers, and are these printers setup on the server running the AOS-service?

The version we're using is 2009. Users access through remote-app RDP on a Server 2008 Service Pack 1 machine. All users are redirecting local printers. We are not using the easy print drivers. I'm finding no signs of printer redirection failure in any of the event logs.  We have one or two printers set up on the server administratively.  When the local default changes, it chooses one of the printers that are set up administratively.  We're not actually hosting DAX on the server in question, just linking to it.

Update: Depending on where the user goes in DAX to print out items, the printer is either correct or incorrect.. When priniting invoice Journals the correct default printer is given. If the user goes to print an Invoice Proposal, a different printer is defaulted.

We see this as well on our RDS printing, did you find a workaround for this?

we use local printers and redirects via RDS. I found a thread where they think its the ax starting prior to the rds sessions printer redirects.

It is not advised to use locally mapped printers with AX, since that leads to you problem. Locally mapped printers via RDS may change name and identifier that Windows keeps tracks of, and next time AX will not recognize that stored/packed printer in the printjobsettings.

The only way around is to move away from using local printers, introduce a Print server and install their drivers, set their default settings on the RDS hosts. Alternatively you may do the same but map it on the AX AOSes, but I would not go down this route, since a bad driver could cause instability and crash your system.
