Hi guys,

When testing some data entity through OData using Postman, I realize, if I don't have Visual Studio, I don't know what is the Public collection name of a data entity. How can we know it ? if I only can access from the D365 FO UI ?

The usual Data entity screen is like this :

But for OData, what we need to call is as described in Public collection name which must be from Visual Studio ->

Thanks
I have the same question (0)

    Hi Voltes,

From my knowledge you need to have Visual studio access to find out the public collection name. It cannot be found out from the D365 FO UI.

    Thanks,

People and systems using the public API (such as Power Apps developers) work purely with public names. They don't need to know underlying object names in F&O AOT.

The information is needed when you need to map these two names, e.g. when an API consumer asks you to add a field to VendorV2 entity. Then you can do things like using Metadata search in Visual Studio to find an entity by its public name.

I know, I am not answering your specific question, but when ever I need to get Visual studio access I navigate to below location provided by Microsoft,

    hi guys,

    Thanks for the response.

So can I conclude, we need Visual Studio to know what is the OData object name we should type in, can I say that ?

If I put it this way, if my customers says they need to retrieve Vendors data from my F&O, I cannot go to Data management - Data entities alone and find out what they need to call or type in for OData integration ?
Instead, when I found the data entity, in this example I found (and want to use) "Vendors V2", then I would seek the data entity "system" name in this case "VendVendorsV2Entity" then open my Visual Studio to see or ask developers what is the Public Collection Name of it. This is the only way ?

    Thanks,

Yes, There is no OOTB functionality to view Public Collection Name of Data entity and generally Developers provide it by referring the data entity in visual studio. However, if you want to empower users to access that information from UI then you need to create a customization probably a Dialog with Data Entity Name parameter which will provide all required information.

    Check this article.

    Hi Voltes,

You can go to the form Excel workbook designer to find all public entities with the public collection names.
