    RE: Test Automation Framework

Hi - sorry to resurrect an old thread and open to all to respond but with Coded UI dead and buried is there a more modern solution that supports USD? Ie a windows desktop application. Do any of the RPA solutions tackle this eg Leapwork or UIPath? Should testers try to automate the USD, as the end-user application or would automation against some of the components be an alternative ie Dynamics CE and F&O, depending on the views required? For such an important interface it seems quite resistant to maintainable test automation. Thanks for any feedback, Dan

    RE: Test Automation Framework

    Hi Sonali,

First of all, I would like to make sure that you really meant Unified Service Desk but not Unified Client Interface because generally UCI and PowerApps come across as of the same thought group. Taking the question as is, Unified Service Desk is a WPF app that acts as a shell while loading(hosting) D365 Webforms(HTML), classic Windows apps, and WPF apps as well. I believe Coded UI is the best choice you have here which is capable of automizing all 3 types of UI. Having said that due to the nature of USD implementation that is, in general, they have integration with telephony or chat systems hence to simulate real-time becomes more challenging on top having to write a test case that deals with different types of UI at a time. Hence I would say you really have to evaluate your return of investment. I would recommend while dealing with USD you may be better off with thorough manual testing.

Unified Service Desk (USD) is a hybrid application. It is a windows desktop application with embedded browser components.
