Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2019

Hello Techies,

Have professional experience with Dynamics CRM 2015 & Dynamics 365 (Sales,Marketing & Customer Service) customization and development.
Have a project coming up where they need Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (Human Resource) development and customization skills.
Have managed to create a trial account for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operation.

I want to connect to the Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations and try some basic dev tutorials.
I'm currently using Visual Studio 2019 Community Edition for development.

After googling for about an hour I came to understand that I need to install the extension
Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.Tools.Installer.vsix for AX development tasks.

I'm not a "Microsoft partner / Microsoft Customer" and I don't have access to
https://lcs.dynamics.com/V2/SharedAssetLibrary to download the VSIX.

Is there any way to get or download the VSIX without LCS or AX7 VM?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Clement

    Hi Clement-ALBERT,

Just the VSIX won't help you here. You will to deploy/ download a developer environment. You can check here for details about deploying developer environments.

Unfortunately you cannot do this without access to LCS.

Also note that there are no such tools for Visual Studio 2019. Developer environments come with Visual Studio 2017.

    Hi Gunjan,

I can get access to MSDN Visual Studio Enterprise Subscription.

    Will that be helpful?

I have access to a windows server 2016 datacentre on which I have admin rights and I have already configured Dynamics CRM 2015 on-premises end to end. The server has SQL Server 2016, Active Directory, SSIS and SSRS.

Using the MSDN subscription can I download AX7 on-premises and get a licence i guess.

But how much of task is it to configure an AX7 environment end to end all by myself?

Is it worth a try or you suggest me to stick to LCS.

    Many thanks.

    Clement

    Hi Clement,

The deployment of D365 F&O environments and developer VMs is always done through LCS. You can also download developer VM VHDs from LCS. These environments are pre-configured with D365 F&O components. You can check the deployment options available here.

Even if you use a Local VHD, you still need to download it from LCS.
Microsoft said in Ignite what D365FO will be able to develop from the client VS in the future, but there is no way to do that at now.
