you should always use source control, otherwise you might lose your code if your dev system gets corrupted (or removed).
Also Microsoft announced well in advance that the RDP connection to MS hosted Tier1 systems will be removed. And now, they are finally removing those systems.
So, I see two important lessons here, which you should take, in order to make your life easier in the future:
- Always use source control!
- Always read announcements from Microsoft (especially the ones that they send to you via email!) so that you can react to changes that they are making.
If MS has already removed your dev system, then I don't think that you can salvage anything from it. If it's not yet removed, you could file a support case and see if they can help you.
