using bulk edit tool to update a field is changing other fields to default (only if formatted as checkbox)

Posted on by

We were using bulk edit tool to update account managers to a new person and noticed it automatically changed 3 other fields to NO (the default) from YES or BLANK. The similarity is these 3 other fields are checkbox format.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I haven't been able to get confirmation from Microsoft, but I believe this issue is now resolved. I'm running version 9.1.0.4046 and am no longer able to reproduce the issue.

    Hi James,

do you have an article reference from Microsoft for this update?

Microsoft has confirmed the problem that the Bulk Edit form sets all checkbox formatted two option optionsets (boolean) to their default value updating all of the bulk edited records in an unxepected way. This has the potential for major customer data corruption and appears to be an issue for all online orgs.

Microsoft feels that they can deploy the fix  in "version 9.1 (1903.4) for NAM region by 04/27 tentatively". 5 weeks after you found the issue.

it showed all checkbox formatted fields on the form in the audit history, however, only changed 4 of them.

they are urelated to the bulk update fields.

    she updated account owner

    fields changed:

all yes/no and completely unrelated to account owner

    Exact same issue.

    Example:

    • Record 1
      • Box1 - false
      • Box2 - false
      • Box3 - true
      • Box4 - false
    • Record 2
      • Box1 - false
      • Box2 - false
      • Box3 - false
      • Box4 - true

Select both records from grid and open Bulk Edit. Set Box1 to True.

Result: Both records show Box1 as true, Box2, box3, and box4 are set to false.

I'm opening a ticket with Microsoft, will provide update.

    Hi BritB,

What fields are these three changed fields?

What are the descriptions of these fields?

Maybe these fields will change as the user level changes. So we need more information.

    Best Regards,

    Lu Hao
