We have an Dynamics 365 sales and customer service modules, which includes one server on-site where you configure the email settings.
Our requirements for email are:
- An Individual CRM user needs the ability to send emails and track them with Accounts and Contacts. This includes integrating the CRM for Outlook app with CRM On-Premise
- The company has the need to auto-send emails to a contact or account from CRM based on “triggers” (example closing of an order) and have that email tracked against a CRM Account / Contact
Our consultant has told us that the only way to do this is to configure an IFD which incorporates ADFS OR to develop a solution with Azure and SendGrid for partial functionality
- This solution would only address the ability to handle the auto-send emails from company's requirements above and would NOT integrate the CRM Outlook app with CRM.
NOTE: I am not a CRM expert, but any means. However, making an application "internet facing" in order for email to work sounds strange, and the consultant cannot explain WHY this is a requirement (I've asked numerous times).
Next, if we already have a mass email solution in house (IIS 6.0 SMTP), can someone explain why we couldn't use that/why we'd need to use SendGrid? I'm trying to maintain high security, with low management. If I inject additional technology. it's just an additional thing that my staff needs to learn and manage.
Thanks in advance for any support/advise.
