NAV client to server connection error

Hi All

I'm Unable to connect to NAV 2015 Server running on a 2008 r2 box.

Client works on server using localhost but if I try to connect from a PC on the same network I get:

A server was not found at

net.tcp://serveraddress:7046/DynamicsNav80

Either the URL is incorrect or server is not currently available.

net.tcp port sharing service is running on both the server and the client PC (net.tcp is disabled by default)

Have checked firewalls on both and tried IP address rather than netbios, but still get error, I can ping via IP and Netbios and web client works from both internal network and external.

What am I missing, why cant I see the server via net.tcp???

Any help would be grateful

CK

    Hi Charles K,

Some suggestions for you, on NAV Server:

    1. Temporarily turn off Firewall.

    2. Make sure NAV Client Service is listening on 7046 port.

    3. Make sure NAV Service Instance is DynamicsNAV80.

Some suggestions for you, on NAV Client PC:

    1. Ping NAV Server to check network availability.

    2. Try to use IP instead of Server Name as "[NAV Server IP]:7046/DynamicsNAV80".

    Good lucks!

    Hi Charles K,

The service display name looks like "Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server [DynamicsNAV80]". Is it existing and started? In addition, as you mentioned, NAV Client works fine on NAV Server, what is the Server Address entered?

You should check the required port is being access on your network & also check that you are able to ping Nav server with name or not.

Are you able to access same url on Nav sever or not?

MS Dynamics Server (DynamicsNAV80) is running so is the net.tcp listener and the sharing service, I also added the net.tcp protocol to the default website advanced options protocols.

I can ping server IP address from remote but cant ping an IP address with a port added, if I do a port scan 7046 does not show up, its as if there is no service running.

Have turned all firewalls off and double double checked port forwarding on the router, just as a test I forwarded port 808 which is the default net.tcp port and it shows up on an external scan.

server address I'm using is: IP:7046/DynamicsNAV80/

error returns net.tcp://IP:7046/DynamicsNAV80/Service not found etc etc

    Hi Charles K,

Is there any network monitor application or antivirus program? Temporarily turn them off on both Server and Client.

Can you verify whether PC is connected to domain network, not to the default workgroup. Need to check PC properties. Previously this fixed my issue.

There is no monitoring or antivirus running.

This server is not part of a domain, I set it up as a demo, MS said it could be installed on anything from Win 7, 8 and server 2008 & 2012 but no mention of being on a domain.

I did find an article talking about NAV being installed as a demo both server and client are on same box and some network functions aren't enabled, I have enabled the browsing service, plus the net.tcp services, are there any others which need to be started or do I need to attach this server to a domain?
