My Dynamics 365 CRM online Instance Vs CDS

Hi Experts,

I have Dynamics 365 CRM online instance that primarily uses Accounts, Activities, Appointments. I have couple of basic questions as I am trying to understand the difference between CDS and Dynamics 365 CRM.

Does CRM online DB the same as CDS?

If not, what should be done if I want to integrate some of the system and custom entities from D365 CRM to CDS database?

What should be my role in PowerApps to build CDS and this above mentioned data integration

Does Dynamics 365 for Sales already built on CDS?

If yes, what should be done to move my dynamics 365 CRM to Dynamics 365 Sales app?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

Yes, D365 applications are built on CDS only, there is not different database for D365 & CDS and hence no need to integration anything

Any customization carried out on D365 goes & sit in CDS only

If you only buy PowerApps per user plan or PowerApps per app plan you only get CDS instance without any of the D365 Apps entities

Can you elaborate your last question, what you mean by move my dynamics 365 CRM to Dynamics 365 Sales app?

    Hi Devi,

    Thank you for your query.

Yes, CRM Online uses CDS to store the app data as entities and fields, where Entities act as Tables and Fields as Columns when compared to the SQL DB,

Dynamics 365 applications, such as Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Customer Service or Dynamics 365 Talent, also use the Common Data Service to store and secure data used by the applications. This enables you to build apps using Power Apps and the Common Data Service directly against your core business data already used within Dynamics 365 without the need for integration.

Does Dynamics 365 for Sales already built on CDS? - Yes.

If yes, what should be done to move my dynamics 365 CRM to Dynamics 365 Sales app?

    - If you are using D365 Online then your data is already there.

Thanks Manoj. I think my last question is not relevant now as irrespective of Dynamics Sales or Customer service now it resides in CDS. So, how about F&O, does this also sit on CDS?
