Can we use modern authentication yet? Or is basic authentication still a hard requirement?

Posted on by 5

Hi

I found that the below blog post mentions that Basic Auth is a requirement for Dynamics GP.
"Using Exchange Online with Dynamics GP also requires Basic Authentication to be enabled for the Exchange Online user account".
https://community.dynamics.com/gp/b/dynamicsgp/posts/exchange-online-o365-emailing-inside-dynamics-gp

We have disabled Basic Authentication in our tenant, but this has then blocked the login to send emails.

Can you please provide an update on this ASAP? Maybe I have missed an update to our application that we need to upgrade to?

Thanks

    Per community.dynamics.com/.../dynamics-gp-email-troubleshooting-guide-1743830067

"Currently TLS 1.0 and Basic Authentication (no MFA) are required for Exchange and Workflow emailing within Microsoft Dynamics GP. We are aware of the changes that are coming to the supportability of TLS 1.0 and Basic Authentication within our other Microsoft applications.  TLS 1.2 and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be included in the 18.3 (Fall 2020) release of Microsoft Dynamics GP.  Target release date 10/1/2020."

In summary, the option to have MFA enabled, and basic authentication disabled for O365/Exchange email in Dynamics GP should be part of the upcoming GP release.

    Thanks

Thank you for your response, please do a blog post! :)

Please note that disabling of basic authentication is high on everyone's to do list, so this can not be delayed further.

Basic authentication is still a requirement of email functionality when using an O365 account credentials entered in the Exchange Log On window for Dynamics GP.

This is scheduled to change in the upcoming Fall 2020 release of Dynamics GP (18.3.####), though we're still in the testing stages so I can't confirm anything 100%.

You're correct in that, if basic authentication is disabled on the O365/Exchange Online environment, Dynamics GP email will not work, because it won't be able to authenticate the account credentials.

Keep an eye on the upcoming blogs for the new Dynamics GP release, as we would most likely put that in a blog once the basic authentication requirement is changed in Dynamics GP for emailing.

    Thanks
