Difference between Marketing Solution Only and Marketing Application

I am trying to install D365 Marketing Application, what is the difference between the two?

1. What is the difference between the two?

2. What are the features missing in Marketing solution only?

Hello,

A Solution Only license includes all of the entities and solutions for Dynamics 365 Marketing, but doesn't include any of the marketing services. This means that marketing capabilities aren't available in this option (including email creation, email delivery, segmentation, customer journeys, and more). This license is intended for use on development and test environments when making customizations, solving compatibility issues, importing or exporting solutions, and doing other types of development and non-functional marketing testing. A Solution Only license is included with all paid licenses and allows you to install the Solution Only app on as many environments as needed.

The mean difference between them is that Solution Only license is intended for use on development and test environments when making customizations, solving compatibility issues, importing, or exporting solutions, and doing other types of development and non-functional marketing testing. A Solution Only license is included with all paid licenses and allows you to install the Solution Only app on as many environments as needed.

2. What are the features missing in Marketing solution only?

Solution Only license includes all the entities and solutions for Dynamics 365 Marketing but doesn't include any of the marketing services. This means that marketing capabilities aren't available in this option (including email creation, email delivery, segmentation, customer journeys, and more).

If you are going to use the license for development and testing, you should choose Solution Only but if you are going to use the license for more marketing services and uses you should use the D365 Marketing Application.

Hi Sachin,

In solution only Marketing installation, you cannot work with Customer Journeys, Marketing Pages and Marketing Forms. To be precise, you cannot go live with anything that requires Marketing Service and insights. You can only work with customizations when using a solution only application for development.

On the contrary, you need to install Marketing application to use all the features like making Customer Journeys, Scoring Models and Marketing Emails live and gaining insights out of it.

Indeed, the naming of the products is quite confusing. Marketing Solution Only is a kind of "lite" version of a full-fledged Marketing Application. Even though Marketing Solution Only lacks email creation, email delivery, segmentation, customer journeys, and so on, I would prefer it over Marketing Application. Anyway, most of my marketing work is done by this creative agency. They know better what to do with advanced tasks. As for these two products, Microsoft could just name the full-fledged version as Marketing Application Pro. We already got used to Apple's "pro" nametags.
