Restricting a user's role so they cannot delete Opportunities

I think the title best describes what I'm trying to achieve. I would like to limit the user's capability to delete data so they don't do it accidentally.

What is the best way to achieve this?

I've read various posts about creating workflows, deleting the delete button, etc. but I guess I am seeking a more efficient solution, or just the most up to date way this can be achieved given the various system updates in recent times.

There is one problem with removing Delete permissions on the Opportunity entity. This permission also applies to the Opportunity Product entity, so if you remove the Delete permissions on the Opportunity entity for some users, they will not be able to delete any Opportunity Products linked to the entity. This is why there are the more complex workarounds, which still allow Opportunity Products to be deleted
