Production lines

Hello every body

We have 10 similar prodution lines of pipe in our company which produce similar productions.Facilities which use in each production line are fixed in a specific location. These production lines reports their performance each day. These reports should be recorded (documented) in our system.

How we can define these production lines in dynamics AX? In other word we have some production lines and want to assign each order to one or more production line. How we could do that?

Thanks for guidances.

Work centre groups and work centres to define the lines, routes for each line, assign them to the order on creation.

    Hi dear Weaveriski

In each of our production line, there are 4 extruders ,1 welding point and 1 puller . We have assumed that all of eatruders are a work center group and likely all of welding point facilities (in all production lines) are 1 work center group . same as all pullers that was assumed 1 work center group. but with new definition we understand that every 4 extruder + 1 welding point + 1 puller make one work center group and our rout consist of Aluminum welding + polymer melting + pulling pipe . Because of continuos production , these 3 operations are performed simultanously and with same production rate in all these operations. In other words we could assume that these operations constitute a parallel network due to same rate.

our productions are polymer pipes with inner layer of Aluminum in 5 different sizes and all of our production lines are enable to produce all sizes.

1)Now if an order recieved from customer consist of different sizes, how could me assign this order  to our producion lines or in other words how dynamics do this assigment for us?

2)if we could  not ue one of production lines due to failure, how could we manage this in dynamics?

3)in some cases we are forced to change facilities in production lines (we want to change welding point machine in line1 with welding point machine in line5) , how could we manage this change in dynamics?

4)how should we define work centers that first we define them once and not more and second their performance could be controlled completly and we would manage all problems above?

Are you an end user or a partner?

The reason for the question is that this is the sort of process discussion that happens as part of the implementation process, any answer I give is based upon not enough information or will lead to more questions, you need to sit down and discuss the requirements with the client, decide if you need to change a process, a concept or it will require a modification.

Looks from your profile you are an end user, get your partner in for a day, this will save you days of exploring by yourself and be a great investment.

    1. You need to have constructed items and all elements to meet the business and fit the AX concept (or change this). So a different size is a different item number or are you using configurations, which means you could use configuration routes, or each item has a different route.

    2. Task groups or a manual change on the creation of the order, but this would depend if it was manual or automated.

    3. You cannot, they are assigned to groups, you can create a spare and close off the calendars in each and open them up. Depends what the business physically does and what they want to reflect in the system, sometimes it takes longer to reflect this in the system than the process takes.

    4. You cannot define a work centre with the same code twice. Control comes from the settings and associated process.
