Print management in D365 for end users and warehouse

Posted on by

Hi all

I need some support to setup print management for end users and warehouse .

My requirement is to ensure that

1>Erroneous printing (USer at city a prints on printer at city b) is zeroed/,minimized

2>Warehouse printers are not available to anyone but designated warehouse staff , as under no circumstances I can have user printing ax docs  on my zebra printers.

What I have done so far and my research

For end user print management

a I have thought that if I install DRA(document routing agent ) on print server , I can see that all printers in print server are available in Ax, however using this approach the risk of erroneous printing still exists and also i cannot track of which user is printing what and how much

b I have installed DRA on my system , my locally installed printers were showing up on D365.  At user level I can track of what am i printing and how much, by going to DRA form under Common space. I think If I have to equip my admin to see what user, is printing what and how much. I should be able to customize the document routing agent form and provide admin with access to see DRA form details for all users( correct me if am wrong).

With this I can keep track , however the risk of erroneous printing is still there .

c. I do not install DRA at all, leave users with option to use print archive and export to file option, using which they print what is necessary  from their local system. D365 has no printers installed. This approach will minimize erroneous printing as user will print it locally in system via default printer and also drive go green save paper drive.

For Warehouse management

I am using Zebra printers, all these printers are installed in my legacy system which ensure that these printers are visible only to warehouse staff.

So connecting them to Ax I have following options

a. ZPL Using Zebra programming language, but please let me know how many times end user need to use ZPL. Dont like this option as this is not end user friendly and not sure if going this route will have zebra printers available to all users or only confine to warehouse users.

b. Install all zebra users on print server , install DRA on print server, this is user friendly , but will expose my zebra printers to all users.

Please suggest best way to setup print management for end users and warehouse in dynamics 365.

What is the purpose of just sharing half of the solution if you font want to share the full solution.

I am not asking to share code here,  but only asking to share the design and structure.

I thought the entire objective of community dynamics forum is to help

    Please share.

The new  table, wizard is mostly the design part of it, and wizard can be replaced by a form.

Can you let me know the following.

1 How & where  will that form/wizard store list of users we select.

2 How will this solution ensure that printers have access controlled on basis of users.

3There are many delegates in srsprintmanagementdelegates, none of them binds the printer to users,

How are we binding printer to list of users in the button.

4Are we using existing delegate or creating new delegate.

You can email me at maverick21k@outlook.com

Pls let me know the following, I am trying but stuck at following points.

    a. Where do we create the new table, is it in same place where we have network printers i.e. organization administrtaion>setup>network printers

b.Unlike 2012 wizard creation is not easy in d365, do I need to create a  new form , then apply wizard pattern and go this route for wizard creation.

c.Which delegates should i use in srsprintmanagementdelegates class which would implement access control to selected printers.

We have to go with your solution as the software will only take care of some printers but not all printers.

Where did you created your own table, which module. Would appreciate any further information shared for getting that wizard using delegates.

That will be lot of customization and create load on Ax server, stuck between if I should go this route or go with independent software like bar tender for warehouse and have no printers available for end users on the system, instead ask them to make use of export and print archive to save ax docs to their pc and then use pc local printer.

Also just got updated post released today , but not sure if there are any changes to existing DRA.

Where is the User field coming from into syscornetprinters form.

After you click user button for user field, how does it open the wizard.

After the user is selected, how is system working in background to ensure that only selected user have access to the selected printer.
