Targeting orphaned leads

Hi,

I thought there was going to be a release last fall where you could now target Leads independent of Contacts in Customer Journeys and Segments. I stood up a trial about a week ago and it looks exactly how it always has where you have to have a Parent Contact in order to do anything with Leads. I'm trying to avoid the hard conversation with a new client regarding how Microsoft has designed lead management in this app. It makes sense to me but my experience is most sales people really hate it, are confused by it, and want the traditional lead-driven approach. And yes I'm familiar with this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/market-to-leads but it's still forcing you to connect Leads to Parent Contacts. Is this just something that we have to live with? Does anyone else have this frustration and how did you get around it?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

As the audience of a customer journey can be Contacts only, yes, you have to create parent contacts for the leads if you need to, for example, send a marketing email to the leads with customer journey.

You can create an on-demand workflow to create the parent contacts for the orphaned leads in bulk to avoid unnecessary duplication of operations.

In this workflow you can create a contact record for each lead record, use the value of the Email field in the lead record as the value of the Email field in the contact record, and set it as the parent contact field for the lead record.

    Hi Nya,

Is there an example of the on-demand workflow that is required to be created to make this process work, with regards to the current best practice?

It would be a real help to the community if this example was readily available?

    Kind regards,

    Zak
