Hi all,
I ran across this article from November 2019 stating that if you want to share customers and vendors across companies you must fill out a survey and contact MSFT Support. I see in my UAT environment (10.0.0.10) that on a vendor it allows me to copy a vendor to another legal entity. The Customer records do not have this option. My question is: Does anyone know if this has changed since the article was written (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/sysadmin/cross-company-data-sharing)?
Has anyone implemented this? In the DAT company USMF and USP2 I see several shared customers but looking for steps to implement this for a new implementation.
Best Regards,
Don Shields
Hi doninep,
We did some investigation in the past to find out if we will use it in an implementation project. We decided to not use this feature as cross company data sharing seems to be very dangerous if you are not aware of it and change information. All the modifications are done automatically in the linked entity.
If you are just interested to have the same customer number there is another feature available to ensure to get the same ID. Checkout this documentation for this: docs.microsoft.com/.../copy-customer
We decided to go the way with the party ID as multiple legal entities will have customer number from the previous system and it is more important to keep this number than having the same number in all legal entities. For us the party ID is enough...
Christopher,
This is definitely something to consider as an alternative. I'm not sure if it is 100% the solution yet but thank you for you input.
Hi Don,
The copy into another legal entity is another option not related to the cross company data sharing. The option you see now has been there already since AX2012. It is a method where you choose the moment and which legal entity.
The cross company data sharing would be an option to directly copy data between multiple legal entities based on change tracking.
It looks like the method suggested by Christopher does not allow you to view Global Transactions. Is that the method you are referring to?
As long as there is a link on the global address book record (Party ID), you can have an overview on open customer and vendor transactions across legal entities. In that case the actual customer or vendor ID is not important.
